FUCK YEAH THE CAT IS BACK! me, just now

on luck, fate & thankfulness

Our cat got out. She’s a gray indoor cat, half maine coon, half tabby. She got out last night right before thanksgiving dinner. We only realized that she was missing this afternoon. She usually spends about half the day hiding under a bed, sleeping.

We’re worried sick about her. We live in a nice neighborhood, full of lots of kind people. There are organizations near us that specifically handle lost cats. She has gotten out before when she lived in different places, and always found shelter and was fine. Still, we can’t help worrying.

The last few months have been really bumpy for us. My employers suddenly moved, leaving us with the option to follow quickly or seek alternate employment. With our daughter due to be born in November, we just couldn’t follow.

Luck and fate keep coming back to me, relentlessly slapping against the tide of my consciousness. We’re so lucky that we have each other. We had a lot to deal with all at once, at what seemed like the least convenient time. The fact remains, we made it work. We moved, found a new employer, and a place to live that suits us better now that we are five. And suddenly, God willing, for the time being, we are four.

I like to think that I’m thankful for all the blessings in my life. I can’t possibly be aware of every good thing that has happened to us. I like to think it doesn’t matter. We know the important things. We cherish our children.

So I sit here, by the sliding glass door. Every 15 minutes, I get up & call for Thunder, hoping she’ll come running inside, safe from the cold rain. The family sleeps in the living room. I ponder being lucky & being thankful, and worry about a small gray kitten from Maine.

Annie, I give you the world.

World, I give you Angelina Emilia, born 10:05am today, weighing in at 8lbs 11oz. Watch out world. You haven’t the slightest idea what you’re in for.

Seriously, I have things to do.

yes.

I can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet. Well, before now. It has now, obviously.

because I didn’t have anything better to do this afternoon than watch OSX beach ball while sorting itself out.

If I look skeptical, it’s because I am.

Rob bestowed these on me today (thanks, Rob!) for my little one. I couldn’t wait to see what they looked like, so I busted open the pack. Here’s a link to the fancy website of the company that makes such candy abominations:

Kandy Kastle Lightning Bugs

You know you want to see what else this fine company makes. Yes you do. Click the link.

on alerts

I sometimes enjoy things. Occasionally, the chance to experience said things first hand presents itself. There ought to be a special word used only to describe the particular flavor of regret that stems from missing out on things based solely on my ignorance of their vicinity.

Unawaregretful.

I’ve resolved that whenever these particularly unfortunate events occur, I will find or create a means of alerting myself of the next convening of stars.

Today, for the first time, this resolution paid off.

The Magnetic Fields are on tour in 2010. Tickets are on sale now. Hooray, alerts! Hooray!
